When I first tried on the shoe I was impressed with the fit and feel. I have a wide foot and have never had a pair of new shoes that did not hurt my feet a little. Usally after a week or two after my feet has had time to stretch the shoe it would not hurt as much or it could be I just got use to the pain. With the NIKE REAX the shoe went on with no problems or discomfort.
July 4th, 2012 I took my REAX out for their first test drive. I got the 7 day free Golds gym trial and I hit the treadmill to see how the shoes would feel and also to see how long I could run because I plan on doing a half Marathon on February 17. 2013. I put in the fat loss preset and was off. For my weight and age the treadmill calculated my target heart rate at 120, this put my speed at around 2.5 which happened to be a walking paced, I was like ok, I guess this is cool, I have not worked out in years so maybe this is a safe starting point. After a few minutes and confidences in my shoe comfort level I decided to speed things up a bit. I don't know about you but I all ways catch my self glancing at other users machines to see what speed they were at and calories burned. I inched my speed up to 3.5 to see if I could jog on the treadmill, jogging on ground and on treadmills are different animals. Jogging without holding or braising my self on the rails was not hard but felt kinda weird, and another thing I noticed was I don't know how to run. As I was jogging I was analyzing my jog carefully so I could do a good review on these shoes and my ability to run a half marathon. After a few minutes I noticed that I jog/run with my toes curled or crunched up. I don't know if this was just bad form or was it from wearing bad shoes all my life to where I had just gotten use to crunching my toes up to try and relive pressure? After I started consciously correcting this error I noticed a little discomfort on the ball of my feet. I don't want to say pain but if you have 372 lbs coming down on you I think you would have a little discomfort. Then I started to wonder if I am jogging wrong? I know you are not suppose to land heal heavy so was I sub consiusly running on my toes trying to avoid heal strikes? This review is getting off track, and is turnning into a jogging post so let me get it back on track and save this for a separate post. To make a long post short after 1.7 miles on the treadmill I had no feet problems at all. My feat felt great, the shoe moved well and the heal part that I was concerned about gave in my opinion much needed support for my weight craching down on it.
The next day since I did not have gas to get to the gym, "Yes it is that bad, I really really need a job." I headed on over to The Killeen college track to test my REAX. I hit the track and once again the comfort of the shoe really impressed me. I am a big guy so something as simple as jogging really beats my knees and joints up. Both knees are bad but my right is a lot stronger than my left. As I jogged, there was a little feeling in my knees and my chin area felt weird at times but I think this was just muscles I have not used in years waking up or once again poor running techniques.
I jogged a half mile and walked 1.5 I stopped joggin because of bad side cramps and my cheast started feeling weird. I will loose this weight but I don't want to kill over from a heart attack trying to push my self to hard. Another thing I need to mention is I noticed that my feet stayed real cool, and even when I took my shoes off my socks wasn't moist I guess this is do to the mesh or the fact that I didn't jog long enough.
In closing My ratting of NIKE REAX RUN 6 I would give them a 10, I never like giving a 10 to anything because I think there is always room for improvement, but to be honest I can't find one thing negative to say about these shoes. I need to take them on a trail run to see how they handle on uneven ground, because I read that some folks have twisted their ankles wearing this brand so I need to judge for my self. So I guess with that said I will retract my 10 and give them a 9 until I can do more testing.
Thank you for reading my all off topic review, I promise as I go along my reviews will get better.
UPDATE
I took my NIKE REAX out for a trail run and the trail was a little muddy and had a few water puddles that I happen to run in so my REAX got real dirty. I went home and washed them and let them dry out and the next day when i went to go put them on as i walked I noticed what sounded like air. I don't know if you have wore shoes with airbags in the heal area or not but when a air bag bust /leaks there is a air leak sound when the heal is depressed. This is what happened to my NIKE. I am guessing the heal chambers where hollow and either my weight compromised the heal making it leak and the added water from the trail got inside and made the air leak more audible whatever the reason was i had to bring them back and was considering a new pair but the heal thing just put me off, I will not have a running shoe that i am afraid to get wet or wash. Last but not least on top of the air squishy sound in the right sneaker both sneakers developed a annoying squeaking sound. I wish I would have recorded some video of it. I am new to this blogging thing so just give me time.
On a more positive note Since i was scared to get the same pair but was real happy with the feel of NIKE I decided to give them another chance and went with.
